Meridian Life Science, Inc. (MLS) Launches Purified Cytomegalovirus Antigens
The transmission of CMV via transfused blood may account for the majority of the CMV infections in organ transplant recipients, neonates and heart surgery patients. Medical conditions resulting from Cytomegalovirus infections include: interstitial pneumonia, mononucleosis (heterophile negative), congenital defects, abortion, mental retardation, blindness and deafness.
The CMV II #9268 (1.0 mg/mL) and #7507CMV III (1.0 mg/mL) manufacturing process is designed to produce a purified, high concentration antigen targeting surface antigens with excellent IgG and IgM specific immunogenicity respectively. The purified CMV antigens are enriched for pp65, gB, p52 and other active CMV proteins which exhibit good sensitivity and low background in CMV detection assays. Cytomegalovirus is a complex virus with more than 30 proteins forming the complete infectious particle. MLS developed two preparations to address the complexity of CMV assay development. Each antigen product was developed to have a slightly different mixture of active proteins and both are suitable for IgG and IgM assays. MLS recommends evaluation of both preparations due to the uniqueness of each assay and control panel.
